Seeing that we're an "arts and literature" forum...

I certainly don't know much about art. I got introduced to Ayami Kojima (and her beautiful beautiful works *sigh*) through Castlevania. Symphony of the Night, to be exact. However, I don't know any other really good artists out there, since Kojima's the only one in terms of video games or novels that really caught my attention. Cover art is usually the only place I encounter that sort of stuff, unfortunately. So to those who DO know a lot about art, please post your favorite artists in this thread (and preferably a screenshot or scan or any form of some of their work  Wink ) here, so we can widen each others' horizons. ..Although as of now, as stated before, I don't really have anything to share.

[Artists as in painters, sculptors, even musicians, actors, composers, other performing artists, etc. Might as well make this a general artist thread. Smiley ]

I like a lot of European renaissance and baroque art, as well as 19th century artists. I believe Kojima gets a lot of insperation from such artists.

A few favourites:

Aside from Kojima, I also like Leonardo Da Vinci, as well as Van Gogh and Monet. For Musical Artists and composers I like Michiru Yamane, Beethoven and Mozart. Oh, and if modern bands count, Maximum the Hormone and Nightmare.

Wow, those pictures are just amazing Shocked I have to say I really like Shinobu Tanno! What has s/he done?

Also, I will admit that I haven't really looked into a lot of art, in terms of paintings and such. I really need to look at some more of that stuff, a lot of it is really beautiful...And yes, Evelyn de Morgan is amazing.

Tanno has done illustrations for books, CD's and games, he has done a lot of covers for the Guin Saga books and the first image I posted is the cover for the game Vandal Hearts. Like with Kojima it's hard to get any stuff he has done if you don't live in Japan, but unlike her he has an artbook:

Since I'm heading to San Jose next week (and I've mentioned this about a thousand-and-one times, but I really can't wait! ^_^'), I thought I might mention a store I'm going to try and visit. Their website sells a lot of neat anime/manga/artbook type items... Including the Shinobu Tanno artbook  Smiley

The art you guys posted are some of my favorite works of art. Raphael, Michelangelo, M.C. Escher and Shirow Masamune are my favorites, aside from Ayami Kojima of course. Smiley

What he said. Smiley Shinobu Tanno's art is just.. woah. I may not know much about art, but I think I can appreciate some of its beauty (although abstract art is a different matter altogether).. *sigh* Thank you, Illumina, for sharing all this with us!
